Festive [fes-tiv]: an adjective pertaining to something suitable for a feast or merry making. What comes to mind? Sparkle. That’s right, it’s time to bring out your inner showgirl because the holidays are the perfect time to pull out all the stops. But be careful – not all that glitters is indeed gold. Little hits here and there are the easiest way to go, so have fun with it. If you’re going to wear sparkle you better be ready to smile. These accessories will amp up any old LBD or even jeans and a tee in the most high fashion, festivus way. Now go find some mistletoe.

The latest look in refined elegance is pure tux luxe. As seen on the runways of Jason Wu, Ralph Lauren and Moschino, tuxedo inspired womenswear is a prominent trend for the fall/winter season. The traditionally male tuxedo has been re-styled in must-have feminine silhouettes and stunningly unconventional designs, without sacrificing the classic black and white color blocking or the eternally chic, understated style content. To complete your tuxedo inspired look, select sleek accessories and black-tie swagger. The latest look in refined elegance is pure tux luxe. If the cool fall weather has sent you knee-deep into the yearly ritual of hunting through your closet for warmer fashion, consider the vest. In addition to the sweaters, cardigans, and coats typical of the season, the vest is a refreshing alternative for layering your look and fighting off winter winds. For true vest-in-show style, try sophisticated tailoring at the office, cozy, functional fabrics on the weekend, and unexpected texture for a trendy twist.

I was never strong at math but here’s an equation to contemplate. If you take the post-royal wedding obsession with dramatic headgear and multiply it by the current western frontier trend, what does that equal? The answer is fall’s statement making wide brim and cloche hats, all in western-inspired colors like brown, black, grey, camel, and navy. These gorgeous toppers were all over the fall RTW runways at Gucci, Lanvin, Dsquared2, and Moschino. Designers opted for warm materials like wool, felt, and suede. So you don’t have to compromise style for comfort. Just pull a hat trick!

What do Twiggy, Edie Sedgwick and Foxy Brown (We’re talking Beyonce in her Austin Powers garb) have in common? Not only are they mod style icons but they can also work a killer frock!

The sixties are back this fall and it’s groovy baby! Think short straight-lined dresses, cute tunics, swing coats, minis and tall boots. Key elements are bold colours, geometric prints and big buttons. Don’t forget to complete the look with some over-the-top black eye makeup.

The times were all about being fun and fabulous. In our opinion, that kind of mentality should never go out of style! So let these looks inspire you to free your inner mod girl. You might even find yourself shimmying along to the Beatles’ “Twist and Shout”.
