Now that spring is officially here, Torontonians have taken to the parks en masse. Wherever your favourite neighbourhood oasis may be, the warm weather means you’ll definitely be spending plenty of time there basking in the sun, playing Frisbee, and maybe even sipping some fine Jackson Triggs from the Wine Rack. Chances are you’ll want to look your best while doing so. Parks in Toronto have become a veritable play and meeting ground for the young, eligible and tanned, and a place for those without a cottage to see and be seen, all while spending some quality time with Mother Nature. Don’t forget the SPF.

Left to right: Aldo Sunglasses ($12). Aldo Sandals ($100). Gap Boyfriend Cutoffs ($55). Gap Slouchy Washed Hobo ($45). Matix Daydreamer Hat ($50) available in Vancouver at Underworld. Joe Fresh Patent Brogues ($59) available at Superstore. Lily & Jae Thelma Dress ($219) available in Vancouver at Riot, Zebra Club, Fine Finds and Aritzia, and in Toronto at Aritzia. Lily & Jae Sway Skirt ($139) available in Vancouver at Riot, Eugene Choo and The Block and in Toronto at Distill.

Guilty as charged! I’ve been caught red-handed for my crimes—smuggling goodies from my main man’s closet. In my defence, I was hoping to transform a cotton button-down into my new favourite shirtdress. If you’re like me, there’re some days when you just can’t bear the femme frills and all the frou-frou.

Luckily, the menswear inspired look is one fashion style that will always remain a classic. The key to keeping it classy and modern is to base your ensemble on cut and fit: think sharp, tailored and clean lines. The silhouette for Spring is a little more relaxed, so feel free to try a boxy blazer, an oversized tee or slouchy slacks. Just be sure to keep the look balance by contrasting looser fits with body conscious shapes. Try some of these boyish pieces.

Top to bottom:

Gap Roll-Up Bermuda Shorts ($39.50 USD) are comfy and casual cool. Look for bottoms with a relaxed fit to channel your boyish side. Balance the look with a stacked heel.

Classic aviator shades are the ideal accessory to borrow from your boy. The Outdoorsman II by Rayban from Sunglasses Hut ($189.95 USD) echo the clean lines featured in modern menswear.

The Cheap Monday Big Shirt in Blue Denim ($48) is so easy to wear. Try a buttoned-up look with skinny trousers, or wear it open with a tank for warmer spring days.

This unisex travel bag from Roots ($358) is great for short weekend trips or heavy workdays.

The oxford shoe is geek chic! Pair it with this season’s rolled trousers and even your billowy skirts. My faves are the Mimosa Oxfords from Browns Shoes ($298).

If you must choose only one menswear-inspired piece, invest in a well-made blazer. The boxy fit of the Rag & Bone Double Breasted Wool/Linen Blazer ($495 USD) makes for a perfect addition to any outfit.
