The trend I’m most excited about this Spring is minimalism and Vancouver’s leading fashion designer Jason Matlo (jasonmatlo.com) nailed it in his Spring 2010 collection. His clean and simple silhouettes in muted colours, such as nude, allows you to accessorize from bold to simple. My pick? These stunning pieces from Tiffany & Co. (tiffany.ca, 723 Burrard St., 604-630-1300). I love the ring’s silver sparkle and turquoise accents in the Paloma Picasso collection that compliments and adds to this season’s big colour trend—neutrals. Spring has almost sprung, so pick up this day-to-night look for the confident fashion-lover or savvy career woman. Jason Matlo available at Lola Home and Apparel (lolahomeandapparel.com, 1076 Hamilton St., 604-633-5017).

Top to Bottom: Nude Jersey Dress ($320), Tiffany Garden Rose-cut Diamond Flower Ring in platinum ($3,700), Mesh Shift Dress ($320) with Black Cotton Kimono Blouse ($350), Marrakesh Necklace with turquoise in 18k yellow gold by Paloma Picasso for Tiffany & Co. ($5,450), Marrakesh Egg Pendant with diamonds and turquoise in 18k yellow gold by Paloma Picasso for Tiffany & Co. ($16,300).

Look 2. Military trend. Utility elements are key for looking up-to-date. Love olives and khakis. Zara.

Look 3. Digital and techno prints mixed together. Twinkle dress from Lynn Steven in Gastown.

Look 4. Minimalism trend. Simple, clean and classic lines. Add thick black frames (from Bang On) and Oxford style shoes from Aldo. Club Monaco.

Get ready to reveal a bit more than usual this Spring as your underwear becomes outerwear. The Spring 2010 runways were replete with romantic boudoir-inspired designs, and it wasn’t just steadfast lingerie lovers like Dolce & Gabbana and Jean Paul Gaultier who embraced the trend. Fashion heavyweights like Dior and Fendi also turned out plenty of delicate, barely-there threads, and the look has now gone mainstream, proving popular with fashionistas everywhere. The key to wearing this look? Less is more. Think pretty slip dresses with lingerie-inspired details like lace or corset boning, and bustier style tops layered under a blazer or cardigan. Choosing understated and feminine pieces will keep the trend looking classy, not trashy. Don’t play coy, take a cue from our picks and let your inner exhibitionist come out to play.
