The latest look in refined elegance is pure tux luxe. As seen on the runways of Jason Wu, Ralph Lauren and Moschino, tuxedo inspired womenswear is a prominent trend for the fall/winter season. The traditionally male tuxedo has been re-styled in must-have feminine silhouettes and stunningly unconventional designs, without sacrificing the classic black and white color blocking or the eternally chic, understated style content. To complete your tuxedo inspired look, select sleek accessories and black-tie swagger. The latest look in refined elegance is pure tux luxe. It turns out that the tragic Christmas gift you received from grandma last year is way cooler than you thought. The new fall/winter trend is about chunky sweaters in funky colours and patterns, as seen on the runways at Céline, Givenchy, Carven, Jil Sander, Joe Fresh and Proenza Schouler. Don’t be afraid to get a little quirky when it comes to your knits. Think bold, crazy prints, Fair Isle, animalia and bursts of colour for a look that keeps you warm and stylish when the weather is dark and dreary. For a flattering silhouette, pair your sweater with skinny jeans and your favourite cold weather booties.

5. ASOS Pull ($63.95)
6. Carven Gargoyle Knitted Intarsia sweater ($1130), at Net-a-Porter

While the catwalks are great places to source outfit ideas and spot trends the sidewalks are equally inspiring. During the Spring 2012 fashion shows, it seemed all the top editors, buyers and bloggers (save the always staid Anna Wintour) were seen sporting luxe printed wide leg trousers. While the pants – in silk, jacquard and satin – were seen on the Celine, Dries Van Noten and Ralph Lauren runways, it seems the style set chose the death throes of summer and the first crisp days of fall to sport these long, billowy pyjama pants. Both comfort and style in one chic package? I’m in.

Whether you’re looking for a dramatic pair of printed pants or would like something a little less conspicuous (à la vintage pyjama pant) we’ve got options for you. Happy shopping!

2. See by Chloé Small Flowers crepe pants ($595), at Net-A-Porter.

3. Etro printed envers satin trousers ($474), available at Luisa Via Roma.

4. Forever 21 Flora paisley pant ($23)

5. Topshop Oriental floral pyjamas with top included ($45)
