Sure, if you’re in Vancouver, you know that our evenings recently have been far from what would be described as “hot summer nights.” But an evening spent packed into a room of shopaholics and beauty mavens sure proved that temperatures were certainly rising (a result of mixing shopping and champagne, perhaps?).

Last Wednesday, LYNNsteven and Beautymark partnered up to offer a night of mini makeovers and some sweet shopping steals. I was happy to join some fellow fashionistas while scoping out the goods and munching on yummy appies. A few items added to my wishlist: a Matt & Nat vegan leather handbag, Kelsi Dagger wedges, and some pretty leather and gold earrings by Toodlebunny.

1. Nicole Dennis Durnin, owner of LYNNsteven. Check out the centrepiece behind her – a cylinder made of 6000 paperback books!

2. Team Beautymark, with owner Marc Brunet (centre)

3. Spotted! The lovely Lisa Wong of Solo Lisa.

4. Carolina from Closet Full of Nothing, rockin’ the ultimate summer look: the fedora and florals.

5 & 6. Cute summer finds!

7. Beautiful, delicate jewelry from Jessica Hicks.

8. Kelsi Dagger wedges – my new obsession!

9. Jennifer Behr headbands are the perfect statement piece.

10. Snakeprint sandals by Kelsi Dagger and studded handbag by Matt & Nat.

Within minutes of entering Gastown’s newest boutique Holly (215-322 Water St. Vancouver, 604-681-8883, shopholly.ca), it became apparent that I’d stumbled upon a little piece of heaven. With high aqua blue ceilings and white walls flooded with natural light, the boutique’s bright, spacious design alone had me on cloud nine. Owner Holly Wong stocks the store with an abundance of fresh, fun clothing and accessories meant for “the modern women who wants to look on trend yet professional during the day, and be able to transition effortlessly into evening.” Wong works with her co-buyer Loretta Oreskovich to ensure a refreshing mix of her own feminine style with her partner’s more edgy aesthetic. With romantic silk floral dresses and flirty beaded camisoles from Parker, bright architectural pieces with attitude from Mason and a nice variety of price points, there really is something for everyone. Summer brings a star-studded line-up: watch for jewellery from Nicole Richie’s label House of Harlow, and threads from Twenty8Twelve by Sienna Miller. My Favourite? The printed strapless mini by Heartfelt. The dress’s design is derived from original artwork by the label’s creator, artist Salvatore Prinicipe, who dubs his clothes “mobile canvases”—who can resist wearing a little piece of art? Not I. With a shopping utopia like Holly, I think heaven may be on Earth after all.

In case you missed it, here’s the link to today’s spring trend segment on City TV’s Breakfast Television! My dvd recorder didn’t record so we’ll have to settle with this.

Look 1. Lingerie-inspired trend. What typically is worn in the bedroom is now worn as outwear. Keep it classy and layer under a blazer or cardy. Aritzia.

Look 2. Military trend. Utility elements are key for looking up-to-date. Love olives and khakis. Zara.

Look 3. Digital and techno prints mixed together. Twinkle dress from Lynn Steven in Gastown.

Look 4. Minimalism trend. Simple, clean and classic lines. Add thick black frames (from Bang On) and Oxford style shoes from Aldo. Club Monaco.

I wore: Vest and white tee from Club Monaco.
