These first few days of June have brought some sunshine with them (finally!) and that means you can start to break out your Summer wardrobe. Which if you’re like me, has been sitting in your closet taunting you for months already. There is nothing more quintessentially Summer than white, nothing more fresh or clean. This year brought a huge trend in the form of white jeans. Skinny and streamlined or ripped and relaxed, jeans of all types are showing up in crisp white hues. Pair them with a bright pop of colour or a nautical striped top for an easy daytime look. It’s only when I’ve worn a white cotton sundress for the first time that I know Summer has truly arrived. The lwd (little white dress) is fast becoming a year-round staple, rivaling the beloved lbd, so it’s well worth the investment. Paired with metallic accessories it makes for a chic, fail-proof evening look. Of course, a light glowing tan doesn’t hurt either. Whichever way you choose to rock it, make 2010 a white hot Summer.

It’s time to renew those gym memberships ladies! Our fashion radar has picked up on the season’s hottest trend: shorts. From micro styles at Stella McCartney, to briefs at Alexander Wang and YSL, and tap styles at Prada and Dior, the best in the business were all turning out their own versions, so get ready to show some leg and pick up a pair. A great alternative to skirts and dresses, shorts will give the same effect with the benefit of a low-maintenance, less fussy look, not to mention more mobility. I love silk tap and bloomer styles for a night out, and cargo or cuffed denim designs for running errands during the day. Shorts aren’t just casual wear anymore either. Choose a longer style a la Marc Jacobs, pair them with a blouse and blazer and voila! You’re work ready. The best accessory to this trend is, of course, a great set of gams, so work those thighs and rock this look!

There was no denying the ubiquitous presence of nude and blush tones on Spring runways, but on the opposite end of the spectrum, brights and neons also made a big splash. High wattage hues in every shade of the rainbow made appearances on many a recent catwalk and red carpet. In a sea of black and beige, a bold candy-coloured number is guaranteed to have all eyes on you. So go ahead and invest in a bright cocktail dress or blouse and think of it as your little secret weapon (lsw) that’s guaranteed to knock ‘em dead. Just make sure to give the said item its due credit and avoid overkill by keeping other parts of your ensemble and accessories in more neutral tones. Any true fashionista will also know to use her newfound power for good, and that means saving your lsw for parties and social functions, not an 8am boardroom meeting. Any of our picks will definitely give a shock to the system, in the best of ways.

We’ve known for a while that matchy-matchy is passé in the fashion world. Designers took it a step further this season though by combining unexpected prints for a playful, fun take on Spring patterns. At first glance the unlikely combinations may strike you as a stylist’s handiwork gone terribly wrong. Polka dots with stripes you say? Florals and animal print? Never fear, there is a method to the madness. Rocking this look without appearing like you got dressed in the dark is all about size and colour. By keeping the different prints in the same colour palette and roughly the same size you will avoid clashing. Also make sure that your accessories are in solid neutrals to avoid any added distraction. This trend is not for the faint of heart, but fashion is all about experimentation, so go ahead and give it a try. We dare you.

If you’re lucky enough to be a Vancouverite, transitioning into spring is simple. With our sparse winter season, it only seems natural that we should be trading our toques for tanks. Regardless of where you live, there are a few simple fashion fixes to consider for in between the seasons.
1. Store away the puffy winter jackets and pick up a topper in a lightweight, yet rainy day friendly material. Try the Banana Republic Classic Trench Coat ($198 USD).
2. Trade your winter wool scarf for a featherweight fabric-like silk or French twill like this Coach Madison Floral Scarf ($78).
3. Goodbye pants, say hello to feminine skirts. Pair with tights for chilly spring days. Pick up the American Apparel Full Woven Skirt ($52).
4. A change in seasons also means a change in colour. Incorporate powdery hues to update your look. The Aldo Daven Heels ($100) and Aldo Zenon Bag ($42) will do.
5. Leathers continue to be on-point this season. Look for lighter, buttery and soft textures in a tailored motorcycle-style jacket, or be daring in a sexy mini like the Urban Renewal Leather Mini ($58).
6. What’s spring without the flowers blooming? Introduce floral patterns to your wardrobe with this Forever 21 Floral Ruffle Tunic ($34).
