Flipping through magazines and ogling floor length gowns and Soho-ready leotards is always fun. But having pieces in your closet that you can love and wear everyday is even more exciting. This season, designers are giving us exactly what we want (and need!) – classic, comfortable, dreamy pieces that any woman can use. The new power suit can be worn to work, lunch, for cocktails and at night. With a modern 70s twist for fall, this look is all about slinky fabric, monochromatic pieces and wide leg trousers. Think of it as your new “go anywhere, look fabulous” outfit.

With the start of fall comes the usual runway affair with everything textured, decadent, and warm. Who could blame us? After summer’s strong rays  and chlorinated waters, our skin just wants to be pampered. This season, fabrics are all about LUXURY!

Models were working silk, leather, velvet, faux-furs, and animal print (including some envious python in the footwear department). Is it old world fever, due to shows like Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, or Pan Am floating around in our subconscious? Or is it just the fashion world’s antidote to the faltering stock market? Either way, were all for looking and feeling like a million dollars – even if the look costs you less than $200.

We’re approaching the middle of summer, and although our free time may be spent in bikinis and flip-flops, for a lot of us our days are spent at work. So how can we look office appropriate without worrying about the heat? Read these tips to help inspire your workplace ensemble for 28 degree weather.

1. Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast.

2. Zara Blazer with turn back cuffs, ($49.99)

Fashion blogger Rumi Neely certainly knows how to keep cool; her silk blazer dressed up her outfit, but she paired it with oxfords to ground her look. Another option is this super thin blazer from Zara, which still offers a sophisticated look without the constraint of a classic blazer. Perfect to wear with breezy slacks or a pretty summer dress.

1. Olivia Palermo

2. Club Monaco Blouse

Next up we have the quintessential white blouse, seen from generation to generation. A classic stable it may be, I cannot emphasize enough its practicality for the office. The one above can be found at Club Monaco, its lightweight feel will keep your temperature down all through the day, and transitions nicely for evening wear. Olivia Palermo paired hers with a chunky necklace, shorts, and a structured bag. Can we say office chic?

2. H&M skirt, $35

This trend will not only make you look classy and ladylike, but its flowy feel lets your legs breathe, as opposed to something more fitted. Enchanting and romantic, compliment this ultra feminine look with strappy heels and a classic chignon. Suffice to say, if comfort is equally important to you as it is to me, this look will keep you cool in and out of the office and will no doubt bring out the girl in you.

SunessenceSummer Linen

Coco Chanel was once quoted as saying, “a woman who doesn’t wear perfume has no future” and Elizabeth Taylor stated that a woman’s perfume collection should rival that of her jewellery. My love of fragrance started young when I used to sit at my grandmother’s vanity as a little girl, doing my best imitation and dabbing some of her Chanel No.5 on my wrists. She still wears it to this day. For me, an ensemble is never truly complete until I spritz on my favourite fragrance as I hurry out the door. Whether you choose to dab perfume on your wrists and neck, or walk through a fine fragrant mist, that final touch often acts as a woman’s best accessory. The perfume a woman wears is deeply personal and sensual. It can be just as alluring and seductive as the knockout dress and heels you pair it with, and nothing can evoke the memory of a faraway place or romantic evening like a perfume. There will always be that classic fragrance that you wear for a lifetime, for my grandmother, Chanel No.5. However, the latest crop of Summer scents is definitely giving those classics a run for their money.

Feminine:
Chloe
I was hesitant to even pick this bottle up at first. I though it would be much too much to wear a perfume by my own name. One spritz of the new Chloe though, and all that went out the window: I was hooked. Iris, Freesia and Rose make this soft, feminine fragrance the perfect daytime go-to.
Spicy:
Beyonce Heat
The woody, fruity mix in Beyonce’s eponymous scent is just as fierce as the diva herself. This sexy, alluring fragrance will definitely bring some heat. It’s a must for date night.
Fresh:
Clean Summer Linen
This simple, unpretentious limited edition fragrance evokes a sunny Summer afternoon at the park or the beach with top notes of sun-drenched citrus fruits like bergamot and Italian limoncello.
Bold:
Alien Sunessence
Thierry Mugler’s new limited edition Summer fragrance exudes the line’s signature sensual and exotic blend adding a new twist with energizing pink grapefruit, monoi flower and warm white amber. The bottle itself mirrors the multifaceted rays of a tropical sunset. Just add your best sundress or bikini: this one is a little piece of Summer in a bottle.

Chloe, Summer Linen and Sunessence available at Sephora. Beyonce Heat available at Shoppers Drugmart.
