This season’s must-own pant is the harem. Effortlessly chic, comfortable and yes, flattering, it’s your new go-to piece for whatever occasion.

Look #1. Emily from JL Model Talent Management is in a perfect weekend look from Zara, shoes from Spring.

Look #2. Amy Sky is wearing Artizia harems in this season’s hottest hue, nude. Even a gal with curves can rock them!

Look #3. InspirationAll Talent and Modeling Group’s Paola is wearing a look from Nouvelle Nouvelle in Gastown. Love the pleated detailing and crop top. A great look for a night out.

Look #4. Victoria shows us that the mature woman can still wear harems in a head-to-toe look from the Jacqueline Conoir Collection available at JC Studio.

“Droopy”, drapey and drop-crotch? These three characteristics seem far from the ideal description of the perfect pant, even for the trendiest fashion fan. But with the focus on slim pants and leggings for the past few years, a newer and wider silhouette is a welcoming breath of fresh air (literally!). The new pant styles for the season are all about volume and a relaxed fit: very much a far cry from our beloved skinnies. Think harem pants, a touch of draping, pleats and wide leg trousers in light fabrics and looser fits.

Now I know what you’re probably thinking – “I could never pull this one off!” But au contraire mes amis! Going slack can truly suit anybody. The key to working this style of pant is finding the right variation to suit your body type. Remember that when working with looser silhouettes, it’s always best to contrast the look with a fitted top to flatter your figure. Finish with a pair of killer heels to elongate the legs. Now give me some slack!

1. These cropped pants from the Jacqueline Conoir Collection ($245) is a universally flattering style. Truly the perfect transition piece if you’re not quite ready to fully venture into the harem pant trend.

2. Want to stand out in a crowd while going slack? Try the silk satin harem pants from Little Moon by Wilfred, available at Aritzia stores in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver.

3. A high waisted pant balances out a pant with pleats and volume, while a rolled hem gives off a super casual vibe. Opt for this style by United Bamboo ($245), available at Lark in Vancouver and Rooney Shop in Montreal.

4. Pick up a pair of haute harems by Ella Peru ($80). The pleats are strategically placed, while the yoke at the bottom is perfectly flattering! Available at Planet Claire in Vancouver.

5. If you’re a curvy girl like me, look for harems with a high waistline and a tapered leg for a longer look. Opt for The Furies Pannung Pant from Urban Outfitters ($92).

6. A great alternative style is one with volume closer to the hem and a slimmer cut throughout. Try the wide leg pant with a draped hem by Obakki. Available at various Obakki stores nationwide and at the Obakki Online Store.

Now that spring is officially here, Torontonians have taken to the parks en masse. Wherever your favourite neighbourhood oasis may be, the warm weather means you’ll definitely be spending plenty of time there basking in the sun, playing Frisbee, and maybe even sipping some fine Jackson Triggs from the Wine Rack. Chances are you’ll want to look your best while doing so. Parks in Toronto have become a veritable play and meeting ground for the young, eligible and tanned, and a place for those without a cottage to see and be seen, all while spending some quality time with Mother Nature. Don’t forget the SPF.

Left to right: Aldo Sunglasses ($12). Aldo Sandals ($100). Gap Boyfriend Cutoffs ($55). Gap Slouchy Washed Hobo ($45). Matix Daydreamer Hat ($50) available in Vancouver at Underworld. Joe Fresh Patent Brogues ($59) available at Superstore. Lily & Jae Thelma Dress ($219) available in Vancouver at Riot, Zebra Club, Fine Finds and Aritzia, and in Toronto at Aritzia. Lily & Jae Sway Skirt ($139) available in Vancouver at Riot, Eugene Choo and The Block and in Toronto at Distill.

In case you missed it, here’s the link to today’s spring trend segment on City TV’s Breakfast Television! My dvd recorder didn’t record so we’ll have to settle with this.

Chloe

Being half French, it’s no surprise Chloe Berge’s favourite city is Paris and that she’s fond of fashion. This UBC Art History Graduate and ex Vitamin Daily intern also adores art, food, wine, and red velvet cupcakes, and spends her afternoons perusing the VAG and South Granville art galleries or getting her shopping fix on Main Street and West 4, in Gastown and at Holts and Aritzia to satisfy her denim cravings. On a night out, she frequents her fave restaurants Hapa Izakaya, Coast, Market, Glowbal, La Brasserie (for the truffle oil poutine), Cielo’s and Pearl on White Rock Beach. Having grown up there, she admits she’s still a bit of summer beach bum. But don’t let that fool you as she truly is a girly girl who loves buying herself flowers, treating her toes to pedicures and picking up a great red lipstick or nail polish for instant glamour. If you see her out and about, buy her a glass of champagne. She won’t say no to a good glass of bubbly.

Val

Valerie Tiu is a freelance fashion writer and stylist, as well as the marketing and pr gal for local label Noir Bonbon. Gastown is her shopping hot spot, especially Nouvelle Nouvelle and Deluxe Junk, and her mom’s closet and Value Village are her go-to’s for some killer 80’s and 90’s pieces. When she’s not immersed in fashion, she hangs out with her best friends at Kingyo Izakaya on Denman, Trattoria on 4th or waiting in line for a meal-on-the-fly Japa dog. She loves spending an entire day reading books and blogs in bed while listening to pop hits of yesteryear and indulging in dark chocolate with sea salt.

Seems I’ve found two great gals to join my team. Welcome Chloe and Val!
