The latest look in refined elegance is pure tux luxe. As seen on the runways of Jason Wu, Ralph Lauren and Moschino, tuxedo inspired womenswear is a prominent trend for the fall/winter season. The traditionally male tuxedo has been re-styled in must-have feminine silhouettes and stunningly unconventional designs, without sacrificing the classic black and white color blocking or the eternally chic, understated style content. To help fast forward through the last of our cool Canadian winter days, it’s time to start day dreaming of spring fashion’s refreshingly bright and bold palette. After taking a look at the Spring/Summer 2011 collections, here are some of our favourite accessory and shoe trends to help complete your looks once we’ve finally said au revoir to the cold!

1, 2. Bold, statement jewellery as seen on the runways at Chanel and Yves-St-Laurent
3, 4. Structured, box shaped clutches like these from Proenza Schouler and Alexander Wang
5, 6. Low platforms and colourful strappy heels done perfectly by Chanel and Erdem

As soon as we are ready to bid adieu to winter coats in order to make way for spring, the fall fashion shows begin. And once again, we crave the winter season. This is the dilemma of every fashion-lover, but we anticipate the future months regardless by adding to our fall shopping wish lists. I’ve chosen a few of my favourites from the New York collections below (in no particular order).

1. Alexander Wang undoubtedly remains a fashion favourite, with his constant reinvention and play on textures (see: bomber jackets-meets-poncho hybrids, fur blazers and sweaters-turned capes). To top it off, Wang showed accessories to die for!

2. 70’s aren’t going anywhere. BCBG Max Azria brings us another season of dropped hemlines and minimalism.

3. One of my favourite collections was from Cushnie et Ochs, who embodied a juxtaposition between a call to nature and sexiness. Body-conscious dresses were paired with fringe, elastic boning and completed with a feather in hair.
4. The Row put on a show that once again proved why the Olsen Twins remain on my list of style favourites. Decadent furs, tailored suits, divine dresses and impeccable styling made this collection one to remember.
5. I love androgynous looks and I love Rad Hourani. The Canadian designer worked his signature unisex pieces with perfect draping and expert tailoring in beautiful wools and leathers.
6. Rachel Roy’s fall line was whimsical and feminine with an urban flair. I loved the layered looks: full skirts, cozy sweaters and structured blazers were finished with a hint of fur and texture.

Shop until you drop! Doing this is not impossible, and I know this because I’ve done it myself. Those brightly coloured ads with bold red letters reading “DESIGNER BLOWOUT SALE” have led to late night sprees, resulting in a shopping hangover. At the very least, my job in fashion writing has afforded me the ability to justify this habit as “research.” It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it.

Here are just a few of my picks for best online retailers:

1. SHOPSTYLE is essentially the fashion equivalent to Google. Type in an item that you want (like “pants”), and voilà – you get a wide array of styles from a variety of online retailers. Try out these Tony Cohen Silk Print Pants ($334) from Shopbop.com, via SHOPSTYLE.

2. SSENSE is a Montreal-based online shop that features the coolest designers from runway and streetwear. One of the best things about this shop is free shipping in Canada. I’m wishing for a vintage Chanel diamond tassel bag ($3525) – a girl can dream right?

3. NET-A-PORTER was created as one of the first of it’s kind. This retailer doubles as an online magazine and features top runway looks from Vince to Valentino. One of their new arrivals includes killer footwear from Alaia ($1805).

4. LUISA VIA ROMA is one of Florence, Italy’s best. Not only do they ship worldwide, but they offer designer looks straight from the runway. The shop has also been known to collaborate with high fashion designers for exclusive pieces. One of the latest collaborations featured an androgynous t-shirt designed by Gareth Pugh ($231).

5. OAK NYC boasts its own private label in addition to a variety of uber-cool brands, like Alexander Wang, Surface To Air and Kai-aakmann. You can even shop from editorial spreads and videos created by the retailer. I am in love with this mesh poncho by the Oak Black Label ($178) – a great spring/summer look!
