Autumn is always bittersweet for me. It means crunchy leaves, gorgeous colours, and luscious fall accessories. But it also means that winter’s evil wrath is nearing closer. Considering the fact that we cannot fight Mother Nature, there is only one thing to do. Forget about our imminent hibernation and instead, embrace everything that is fabulous about this season – including beautifully chic fall gloves! This year, they’re retro, versatile, and oh so fun. Channel your inner bombshell with long lengths and fur-trimmed versions, or keep it casual with short, wrist grazers. Look for luxe textures like cashmere, suede and velvet. You can look posh and stay cozy too.

Here’s a look at our favourite styles:

1. Driving Gloves - The Quilted Driving Gloves by Rag & Bone ($280). Available at Shopbop
2. Fingerless Gloves - 3.1 Phillip Lim long fur gloves ($350) at Shopbop
3. Luscious Leather - Diane Von Furstenberg Alina Leather Gloves ($185) at Shopbop
4. Cozy Chic - Lord & Taylor Cashmere Bow-Embellished Long Gloves ($45)

5. Old Glamour - Diane Von Furstenberg Clarissa Leather Gloves in fuschia and black ($188), at Shopbop

6. Animal Print - Kate Spade Migonette Haircalf Long Bow Gloves ($245)

Ladies, Autumn 2011 is all about being bold. Luscious jewel-tones, classic 50s chic, sleek and rebellious black shades, as well as rock worthy metallics found their way into the season’s designer runway collections. Dries Van Noten was all about gold. At Haider Ackermann, we saw strong and sexy dark tones. Meanwhile, Marc Jacobs opted for Sophia Loren-inspired silhouettes and lady-like polka dots. Luckily for us, these current ready to wear obsessions also make for fabulous everyday inspiration. Whether you’re feeling rather “good girl” or more like “good girl gone bad”, try your hand at fall’s hottest makeup looks.

The Jewel-Tone Eye

To get the look, try Avon Mega Impact Eyeshadow ($8). This comes in six high impact colors, each with both a light and a dark hue for an easy jewel-tone smoky eye).

Other options include MAC’s mineralized eye shadows ($20) and Dior’s new “Blue Tie” Collection Palette ($70), available at The Bay.

The Rosy Cheek

The Winehouse Cat-Eye

This throwback to mod was seen at Lanvin, D&G and Alexander Wang among others. Winehouse fans can extend their cat eyes for more drama, or skip the mascara for a more discreet look. Look for easy gel or liquid liners, such as Revlon Colourstay Liquid Liner ($7.29 at most drugstores and at Revlon.com.

The Spider Lash

To create fierce, Twiggy-esque spikes go for mascaras with a chunkier wand, like Rimmel London’s Extra Wow Lash ($4.99 at drugstores).

The Return of Red

Red lips at the Miu Miu show, also seen in their Fall 2011 ad campaign.

This classic look is back with a vengeance this fall. From Diane von Furstenberg to Ungaro, bright sexy reds and darker crimson lips were heating up the runways. For a similar seductive pout, turn to shades like YSL’s Rouge Volupte Perle in Mysterious Red ($34) at Nordstrom.

The Dash of Metallic

There seems to be a gold rush happening in terms of fall makeup. Cheeks, eyes, temples, and lips are being sprinkled with shimmery and metallic products.

Go for an ethereal glow with eyeshadow from Make Up Forever’s Star Power Diamond Collection ($24) at Sephora. Embrace all that glitters with Guerlain’s Kiss KissGloss in Peche Charnelle ($30.50) at Sephora . Although it is for lips, try dabbing some on your cheekbones, inner eyes, or temples for added sparkle.

Although I’m not a huge believer in making New Year resolutions, this year I’ve decided to banish all of my sweatpants and leggings to the corner of my closet usually reserved for pajamas and loungewear. Just because we are creatures of comfort doesn’t mean that we have to sacrifice style, especially with the vast choice of trousers, harem pants, and slacks that are everywhere these days.

Here is just one great way to style a comfortable outfit without resorting to your most worn-in pair of sweats or leggings. Adding a cozy crop sweater, trendy lace-up boots, a splash of colour and some fun accessories completes the look of these chic but cozy Vivienne Westwood harem trousers.

Sweater: Bodkin, Boots: Strap, Coat: TopShop, Necklace: New Dawn Fades, Bag: Proenza Schouler

Tea parties are the new cool. Now we may have to give Johnny Depp, Mr. Mad Hatter, credit for making teatime tempting again, but this trend has certainly been making its mark on the mainstream in recent months. After all, it is the quintessential hobby to socialize with friends and family, and better yet, relax. Traditional afternoon tea called for best-dressed, polished attire, so why not take a cue from the past and get dolled up and decked out?

Whether you are headed for high tea at The Empress, or simply sipping at a café with the girls, try taking a step towards clean and ladylike looks. My pick for the best afternoon tea in Vancouver? The Secret Garden Tea Company in Kerrisdale.

1. Think ladylike looks for teatime. Look for elements like sweetheart necklines, draping, and girly prints. Try this floral silk-chiffon dress from 3.1 Phillip Lim ($595), available online at Net-A-Porter and at Misch in Vancouver.
2. Cinch in a flowy dress with a belt – bows are a nice touch! Leather contrast bow belt by Sonia Rykiel ($125), available online at ASOS.
3. Top it off with an ultra-chic wide brim hat. I love this Deena & Ozzy Straw Hat from Urban Outfitters ($34).
4. Accessorize with lovely layered chains. My pick is this gold multi-chain necklace by Tom Binns for Alice In Wonderland ($175). Available online at Karmaloop.
5. Traditionally, tea gloves were worn to protect from the elements. Play up this idea with these sheer lace gloves by ASOS ($7).
6. Want to feel extra luxe for high tea? Slip on these sexy stockings by Bebaroque ($101) from ASOS.
7. Balance out this feminine ensemble by pairing it with some cool brogues. Two-tone brogues from Aldo ($80).
