Hundreds of hungry fashionistas packed into Heritage Court in Toronto’s Exhibition Place last week, for the Joe Fresh Style Spring/Summer 2011 runway show.  After some major crowding and quite a bit of confusion – seats were stolen, guests were sitting in aisles – the show began as Gorillaz’s “White Flag” came on over the speakers.

The new-found partnership between Joe Fresh Style and Scouts Canada was evident in the collection, which featured a heavy “boy scout chic” influence. The overall look of the show was very preppy and Hamptons-esque, with a dash of glam. My favourite piece was definitely the navy, strapless jumpsuit.

At the after party, Joe Mimran chatted with his design team while the show’s models danced like there was no tomorrow. We can’t wait to see what’s next from this fashion powerhouse.

Canada’s favourite splatter queen Ashley Rowe is back, having traded Jackson Pollock for Woodstock.  Like Toronto fashion heavies Greta Constantine, Evan Biddell and Joeffer Caoc, Rowe eschewed LG Fashion Week in favour of staging her own show on October 14.  Held in a top-secret studio/warehouse in the city’s west end (guests were notified of the location the day before the show), models traipsed around the room in long, baggy, tie-dyed creations.  A definite departure from her trademark splats, the latest collection gives off a relaxed sixties vibe.  We love her use of colour and the long, lean lines of the garments.

The better half of the Newport-Mimran clan never fails to show an elegant yet wearable collection.  We’re hoping she’ll keep up the Pink Tartan tradition of being the top collection of the week.

Last spring, Michael and Drew Thomas held their show at the Clint Roenisch Gallery.  Models, many seemingly too thin for their androgynous ensembles, strutted down antique hardwood floors in Jeffrey Campbell wedges while the city’s it girls and boys crowded in along the sidelines. This show only promises to be even bigger and better.

Making her debut at LG Fashion Week, Toronto’s newest, blue lip-est fashion darling is no stranger to ChristieLohr.com, having been featured last month.  We love her daring noir designs and hope to see more edgy sophistication for next season.

There’s not much that gets Toronto fashionistas buzzing like LG Fashion Week.  Love it or hate it, the week-long festivities are a great showcase for Canadian design.  Since things can get pretty hectic down at Exhibition Place, we’ve sorted through the schedule to bring you our top three must-see shows for Spring/Summer 2011.

Marion Cotillard TIFF 2010

Marion Cotillard TIFF 2010

The more casual red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival showcases celebrities’ personal style, and no one looked as effortlessly chic as Marion Cotillard. At the premiere for her film “Little White Lies” she added the right amount of edge to a simple frock by Lefranc Ferrant with Dior Cavaliere booties, a gold cuff, and bright blue nails.

To achieve Marion’s je ne sais quoi, you can splurge for the real thing, or try these other military-inspired ankle boots.

1. Browns ID booties ($248), available at Browns.

2. Olita booties by Boutique 9 ($230), available at Nine West.

3. TYMS peep-toe booties ($140), available at Aldo.
