Violet Boutique is home to your three new best friends. Their names are Suno, Fetherson and Whit. Suno is eclectic, she likes to mix prints, wears hats when she gardens and is not afraid of colour. Fetherson is outgoing and flirty – she is the type of chick that will make boys drop to their feet with her feminine dresses. Whit is a simple gal, she prefers the outdoors, is inspired by the seventies and likes to keep things clean and classic.

I had the pleasure of meeting these lovely “ladies” and a few others during their introduction at Violet. With enough treats to leave you with a sugar high, Pink champagne, and nail art by Christina Culver, the soiree was the ultimate girl’s night out.

Violet Boutique is located at 3012 Granville Street, Vancouver.

We believe in the gospel according to Coco, Cristobal and Christian (Chanel, Balenciaga and Dior, that is). So when the fashion gods call upon us to celebrate the new season, we gather in reverence to honour their gifts. Befitting the laws of fashion worship, Obakki presented its Fall 2011 Collection at Vancouver’s Saint Andrew’s-Wesley Church.

The dimmed setting set the tone for a dark and cryptic collection. Feminine draping and flowing silhouettes contrasted with restrained, body-conscious attire. Textures varied from fur-trimmed elements and heavy wools to soft silk layers. Painterly red slash-like prints and lace details lent to a gothic feel, while models walked the runway with disheveled fishtail braids, deep red lips and ghostly pale faces. Overall, Obakki demonstrated cohesive, wearable and beautiful pieces. Surely, it was a collection to preach about.

After ten years of pioneering the beauty boutique movement, it was officially time for Beautymark to celebrate their anniversary by moving into a bigger and better location. The unveiling happened last Wednesday, and it brought the fashion elite of Vancouver out in droves.

Now located at 1268 Pacific Blvd in Vancouver, The Cross-designed boutique is an impressive two-storied, expansive space. Though the location has changed, the boutique still continues to offer the best of the best in terms of beauty and styling products as well as some of the city’s best beauty and hair specialists. Owner Marc Brunet has cultivated an amazing team of specialists, including Chris Funk, the former style director of Blo Blow Dry Bar, nail artist Christina Culver, and more. Not only does the boutique sell beauty and hair products/services, but it also has a baby section and a well-curated collection of clothing and accessories.

Be sure to swing by the store yourself and check out the new space – you’ll undoubtedly find yourself walking away with something!

I was lucky enough to attend Coachella this year, and had absolutely no problem trading in the still-wintery Toronto for some sweltering California sunshine. Always a destination event for the young, fashionable and famous, crop tops, bright accessories, feathers and antique-lace inspired tops and dresses were the trends-du-jour at this year’s fest. Stylish performers included Eliza Doolittle, in feather headdress and the young, energetic Rye Rye in neon brights. Art installations ranging from giant neon dandelions larger-than-life insects lit up the desert until the wee hours of the morning. Whether it was the bevy of giant lanterns that descended onto the crowd at the end of Arcade Fire’s stellar set or Kanye West’s troupe of classical ballerinas, the headliners definitely brought their A-game this year. All in all, an unforgettable experience.
